Winter

It is winter and bitter cold in New England.  I stay close to home and go out locally to photograph birds, but many are elusive.  I focus on winter projects, go through my photo archives, edit and organize photos, catch up on paperwork and such.  I hibernate a bit and enjoy the time at home.  But the days are not too many until I leave on my next trip.

I travel to Colombia soon and the anticipation increases daily.  I am curious about the landscape, people, food, and of course, the main reason I am going, the birds.  I watch videos, look at birds online and in field guides, make lists, and purchase any necessary items.  With around 2000 species, Colombia is known as the birdiest place on the planet.  This will be the first time to see many of these birds - colorful toucanets and tanagers and so many different kinds of hummingbirds.  The excitement builds.

If you are interested in my Colombia travels and the birds that inhabit the Western Andes, where I will be based, follow me on Facebook and Instagram, and check back soon for my next blog in which I hope to share some experiences and photographs.
